dtr is reaching across the water - April 2017

At our Regional meeting this year which includes all store managers and Support Office management our CEO Mark Spring had an announcement that pretty much shook the entire team.

As a team we were going to travel to Thailand in May 2018 and take part in a charitable bike ride run by Hands Across the Water, a charity set up to support Thai orphans in 2005.  The shock was that ride would be 300km in 3 days!  Plus we would all be fundraising $2500 each which would go directly to the charity.  I think most of us felt we could weather the fundraising and all agreed it was a good cause but we were certainly concerned about the ride!

Mark himself had recently undertaken just such a charitable ride with Fisher and Paykel riding 500km in 5 days.  He found the experience to be profoundly life changing and decided it should be shared with his dtr staff.  dtr will be paying for all the flights and accommodation and other expenses and every penny we fundraise will go directly to the orphans.

The bike ride will be a thoroughly demanding personal challenge for us all but it will be quite an experience riding across some of the more rural areas of Thailand and seeing some fascinating World War II landmarks.

There is plenty of time to train and dtr are supporting staff with training regimes from Hands Across the Water and in getting bikes to train on.  So it’s up to us to rise to the challenge now and get on those bikes!  Keep your eye’s peeled for our exciting fundraising events.
