inaugural Fox conference wrap up - April 2014

The inaugural Fox Group Conference, held over four days in Queenstown during April was a standout success.

The conference provided an opportunity for Gordon and I to bring together dtr and The Appliance Shed’s senior management, branch managers and representatives from our key suppliers. We challenged and inspired them to come away with a Fresh Focus on building the best possible Foundation for continued success and growth.

The theme of our conference, as you may have guessed, was Foundation / Focus / Fresh and we wanted to offer delegates a chance to work on themselves personally, as well as working on our businesses.

As the directors of the Fox Group our emphasis is on developing our people as just that, people. Glenn’s presentations focused on personal growth and the teams were inspired to challenge their thinking, stretch their own perceptions of what they are capable of and to apply what they learned in both their lives and work.We were fortunate enough to have Glenn Capelli, winner of the 2013 NSAA Keynote Speaker of the Year, as our conference facilitator. He kicked off the proceedings on the first day with an inspiring and dynamic presentation. I have always found Glenn to be a motivating speaker and our conference delegates gave us overwhelmingly positive feedback about Glenn’s talk. One delegate remarked: “Glenn is a genius. I have learnt heaps from him”.

Other highlights of the Fox Conference included great supplier workshops, checking out all that beautiful Queenstown has to offer (including some of the team completing a bungy-jump!), an epic dance-off and obviously getting to spend some really valuable time together as a wider team.

I am very proud at what we accomplished and believe strongly that our company culture is what sets dtr and The Appliance Shed apart and makes them such great companies to be a part of.One conference survey response in particular sums up just how valuable the experience was: “I have been inspired to look at life differently (both at home and at work) and have a real appreciation/admiration for the power of a strong company culture”.
