dtr and the local Sallies team up! - July 2013Alice Buchanan July 17, 2013 : 0
dtr Gisborne has been doing some great work with the local Salvation Army branch. Last September three of our managers spoke at the Sallies ‘Life Skills’ workshop and we ended up finding Gisborne dtr’s next employee!
Gisborne Salvation Army has been running these ‘Life Skills’ workshops for the past five years. The workshops are held for six weeks each term. During this time, attendees are taught basic life skills like budgeting, cooking and parenting skills. They attract a wide group of people from all ages that might need a little help – like Ruth, a mother of four in her late twenties.
Ruth enjoyed the sharing of information part of this course, especially tips where good deals on staples such as vegetables and eggs, etc. could be found. When dtr management presented at the life skills course, Ruth stood out from the group. She impressed us all with her positive comments, questions and openness to learn more about what dtr offered. With a background in retail and administration, Ruth was ready to enter the work force again, so we were very pleased to offer her a sales role at dtr Gisborne.
We feel so lucky to have found Ruth and she’s fitted into the Gisborne team with ease. She is a highly motivated worker, with very good time management and customer skills, among other positive qualities!
Our Gisborne store is performing excellently this financial year and the team works very well together. We often receive compliments about the great presentation and atmosphere of the store. This year, they are participating in the Gisborne Westpac Business of the Year awards. This is something they have not done before so we’re behind the team 100%. Watch this space!
