Junior Warrior joins dtr's Panmure store - July 2012Mark Spring July 05, 2012 : 0
We can now boast that we have a Vodafone Junior Warrior (and soon to be formerly announced Manly Sea Eagle) amongst our staff, with the hiring of Ligi Sao.
Ligi plays prop for the team, swapping his sports uniform for a dtr shirt when he’s working for dtr.
Ligi was hired as a marketing intern, with the aim of learning as many different facets of the business as possible. He spent his first three weeks working in dtr’s Panmure store, dealing with the most important part of our business – our customers.
Since then, he’s been at dtr’s head office working with the marketing and finance teams including updating information on our intranet, customer service calls, and other general administrative roles.
With his Junior Warrior’s commitments, Ligi trains 4-5 times a week depending on when his NRL games are on. dtr has managed to work out a manageable schedule that doesn’t affect his training and game timetable, so Ligi is able to juggle his two vastly different roles relatively easily.
The 19 year-old only converted to rugby league two years ago. Ligi played rugby union at school up until his final year at Manurewa High School. He was talented enough to get to grips with the game easily, and went on to play for local club Manurewa Marlins, but that was short-lived as he was snapped up for the Junior Warriors squad after just three months.
Ligi’s once again in demand and has just signed a three year contract with Aussie squad Manly Sea Eagles and will head over to Sydney once his contract with the Junior Warriors wraps up in October.
Ligi hopes to keep playing league for as long as possible, but the work he is currently doing at dtr has opened his eyes to other career opportunities in the future.
