Warriors pack a full house for dtr Manukau - May 2012

Mark Spring May 16, 2012 : 0

It was a milestone to remember as we celebrated dtr’s half century with hundreds of loyal customers at our Manukau store.

We’d be silly to think that they were all there for dtr and Birthday cake and prizes, they were there to get up close and personal with the Vodafone Warriors, who dtr sponsors.

Sam Rapira, Ivan Penehe and Michael Luck had no obvious signs of repetitive strain injury or RSI as they autographed hundreds of posters, t-shirts, balls and even a few kid’s arms and shoes during the event!

The birthday bash exceeded our expectations by a country mile – which was pretty much the length of the queue. The line of fans of the boys snaked around the store and spilled out onto the carpark outside (thank goodness it was a fine day).

There was no “queue-rage” though, with everyone pitching in trying to make the wait as enjoyable as possible, there were prizes to be won and a BBQ raising money for Shine.Punters impressively showed off their muscles with a press-up competition, kids loved trying out their goal kicking in-store and the PS3 League game were all real highlights, keeping everyone amused and entertained while they queued.Staff said the turnout was quite overwhelming and described their looks at times like “stunned mullets”, having no idea that the boys would attract such a huge response. It was all hands on deck, with eight dtr staff from the Manukau store, three from dtr’s marketing team and another 4-8 extras from other branches who came to help out. Mai FM were there, keeping the music playing and letting everyone in the queue know what was going on in-store.If you weren’t there for a Warriors autograph then there was the dtr garage sale, which was also a big success with ridiculously low priced TVs, couches and fridges flying out the door.We were the talk of the radio waves too, I heard they mentioned our event all the way down in the Bay of Plenty! It was great to see lots of familiar faces from regular customers who are like part of the dtr family, to staff and their families. It’s fair to say that everyone had a blast, well done to the dtr Manukau team!
