new Porirua store the successful result of months of planning - September 2011Alice Buchanan September 29, 2011 : 0
The latest dtr store opened earlier this month in Porirua and it’s the fruit of many months labour. The main driver behind this new location was a decision to realign our Wellington store locations to make it more convenient for our customers to shop with us. After extensive third party research, we found that over 50% of our Wellington customers are based in and around the Porirua area. As a result, we’ve relocated our Willis Street store in the city to the new Porirua site.
Branch manager Barry Patterson and his team, aided by staff from head office, welcomed over a 300 customers on the day of opening. And the feedback we received during the carnival atmosphere of the opening event was exceptional.
During the opening week we gave away hundreds of spot prizes and had two onsite radio promotions with ZM, where we gave away prizes ranging from signed Warriors clothing to huge Sony audio systems.
As a testimony to how many people popped in, I personally cooked 60 kgs worth of sausages on the sausage sizzle during the first two days! We also organised entertainment, including a Barber Shop quartet from a local school who were raising money for a trip abroad.
I’m delighted to say we received great feedback from other local retailers and the local retail association, who were glad to have dtr in the community. And after the first week of trading, the store has already exceeded its planned sales for the month, with a result in excess of 300% of the target sales now expected by month end. All in all, a great success!
