dtr & the Warriors Shine despite the match result - June 2011Mark Spring June 20, 2011 : 0
As a sponsor of the Vodafone Warriors, once each year dtr gets the opportunity to be the official Match Day Sponsor. It was our turn on the weekend and we were extremely privileged to be able to use our match day sponsorship to support Shine.
I think like most New Zealanders, the staff of dtr share the sense of hopelessness and shame at this country’s issues with domestic violence, and in particular our inability to protect our children. Shine is New Zealand’s largest single domestic abuse organisation and works to offer help for the women and children who need it as well as the men who want to change their behaviour. Shine is now part of the Vodafone Warriors ‘One Community’ programme, which dtr will be supporting in any way we can. Read more about Shine here.
Through auctions, raffles and donations, we managed to raise $7,318.10 for Shine so we should all feel proud of the effort put in to plan and execute the day. I’m sure this will be the start of many more positive community initiatives between ourselves, The Vodafone Warriors and Shine.
As part of the half-time entertainment, we organised a zorbing race where punters had the chance to win a 50 inch Panasonic HD Plasma TV. For those who don’t know, zorbing involves people getting rolled around in a large plastic ball. Often, this is performed down a hill, but in this instance we had two competing families from the crowd pushing the balls (with a person inside) around the pitch.
We had a larger than usual presence in the D-Zone behind the posts and got the chance to chat with lots of customers who popped in to say hello to our staff throughout the day.
It was a great day, even though the Warriors narrowly lost to the Wests Tigers 22-26.
