dtr shows off our Fair Play Annual winner - Xavi Taele - August 2014

This year dtr was proud to launch the dtr Fair Play Award.  This award was run with local rugby clubs across New Zealand and encouraged players to play fair on the field.  dtr is passionate about being fair in all aspects with our Fairness Promise and our Values Statement so we were very proud to be able to run this program.  Our sponsors, Wendy's and the Vodafone Warriors are all in agreement with fair play on the field and were happy to participate. Local clubs registered on our website and were sent certificates to hand out to a Fair Play winner each week.  The winners could then collect a goodie bag from dtr containing a drink bottle, Wendy's vouchers and a Vodafone Warriors mouthguard.  Each weekly winner could go in the draw for the Annual Fair Play Award by uploading their photo to our website as well.

This weekend we were proud to host the first winner of our Fair Play Annual Award.  Xavi Taele plays for the Otumoetai Eels in Tauranga and won his weekly award for "always encouraging everyone on the field in a positive way".

Xavi and his mum Jo and sister Kenza were flown up from Tauranga to watch the final home game of the Vodafone Warriors.  Sky City welcomed them and provided a complimentary room for the night.  After adventuring around the Sky Tower and enjoying a feast courtesy of Wendy's, the Taele family headed to the game so they could enjoy a pre-game tour of the clubhouse where we also presented Xavi with a signed team ball and a Heritage jersey.

Jerome Ropati, Vodafone Warriors Club Ambassador was the tour host and he gave everyone insights into some of the preparation and dedication required to be a professional sportsperson.  At the end of the game they were again taken back to the clubrooms where Xavi was able to say hello to some of the team and collect signatures on his brand new jersey.

It was a race against time and weather to get into Sky City, where Xavi was invited on stage to present the Player of the Day award.  Xavi handled this like a pro, joking with the MC and handing Sione Lousi his award like he'd been doing it all his life.

The crowd even declared by unanimous cheering that Xavi should win one of the Sky City $50 vouchers which he accepted with a proud smile and another photo opportunity!

It was an incredible weekend for Xavi and his family and well deserved.  We would like to say a big thank you to Wendy's, Sky City and of course the Vodafone Warriors for supporting our Fair Play awards and prize weekend.

We will be running the dtr Fair Play Award again next year so make sure you stay in touch to get your club signed up!
